You are buying an amazingly detailed copy, made by hand, from images of original boxes I own.
Printed on and cut from thick card matching the original.
The base is also made from original matching cardboard.
In the pictures the replica box is shown next to the original box it was copied from (not included in sale) to show how close the replica is to the original
The original box is always shown on the RIGHT.( original box not included in the sale)
The detail includes constructing the box in the same manner, style and same weight of card.
A special feature is that the STAPLES are PRE RUSTED then added individually by hand.
I try to make the box as near an exact copy as possible.
The box is sprayed with a mix of matt and shiney varnishes to match the original.

A bit about the range of old-vintage-robots boxes
I decided I would like see if I could recreate robot and space toy boxes as near as possible to the original items. I was disappointed with repro boxes I had seen, poor quality printing, bad or no retouching and worst of all photocopied paper stuck on panels with pictures of the staples.
I wanted to create an exact copy as it would have left the factory, and being a photographer by profession used my Hasselblad, Phaseone digital back and software to get incredibly detailed images of the boxes I own to build the replicas from.
The original boxes are made up of dots of colour printed by plates onto a white card. You need to copy the detail of the dot formations if you are going to get a good print.A scanner image is just not good enough detail.
When the image of the box is retouched in photoshop it is necessary to keep the feel of the dots and not just add areas of colour to the restored areas of damage or to cover staples. This is done by sampling an area of coloured dots, then repeating the area over and over to build a palette of colour that has the original dot pattern. This eventually gives you a rebuilt box image that has the " dot texture" value as the original box.If just an area of colour is added it give a flat unrealistic finish.
The next stage is to print the box so it can be constructed in the same manner of the original box. A large professional A3+ printer using archival ink is then necessary Then onto to the card itself. Most repro boxes are flimsy and thin. I went for a A3+ semi gloss 450 gsm card. This is as near as possible the correct card.
The hard part is to formulate the correct icc. profile to have the printer successfully print an accurate colour balanced image on non photographic card. Lots of tests to get each boxes colour correct.
The base container of different boxes differ a lot, both in construction and material.
I have tried to copy the exact pattern shape of the original design. Also I like to use the same material as the original, whether that is just thick card, single corrugated card or double thickness corrugated. Important too is to get the flute of the corrugation to run the same direction
as the original.If I have a box with inserts I like to copy those as well.
Lastly the staples, nothing worse than shiny staples. I soak different size staples in a special rusting solution to get an authentic aged look.
The boxes are first glued together to get neat edges then staples fired in to the card. These staples are then removed and rusted ones fitted.
The boxes are then sprayed with a matt varnish to give the original look
This whole process does take a while. I have priced my hand made replica boxes according to rarity, how much my original purchase of the toy and box was, the amount of restoring work on the images and the sheer time involved in the making process. You can surely buy cheaper boxes but none with the attention to detail that have gone into mine.
